More About Her
Amanda Dorcil of Catwalk Studios has just returned home from New York Fashion Week. FashioNZ.co.nz chatted to the photographer, and former model about her sense of style...
What is your favourite item of clothing?
It is a Tracey Reece sequined dress. I won it at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in NYC last week.
Who is your favorite New Zealand designer?
A difficult question as there is not one but more a wardrobe full, I have, over the years, loved wearing Liz Mitchell, Trelise Cooper and Helen Cherry.
If you were invited to attend the Academy Awards, who would you ask to design a dress for you?
Liz Mitchell
What were your best buys this summer?
A pair of Jean West Skinny jeans that I wear three quarters with heels, the pockets are perfect to disguise the fact I don’t have a backside!
What have you already bought for Autumn?
A pair of sexy Charles Jordan high boots, I have worn them nearly every day to NYC fashion week with my cell phone tucked in the side, I love them so much and so do my feet.
What has been your biggest fashion mistake?
Trying to be too red carpet at a wedding, I had a dress made by a design student from a sketch I drew - gold satin that fell from the neck with no back - it was a disaster, The wedding was outdoors and I looked like a sale boat on a windy day. Help was on hand and we ended up lacing up the back with fishing tackle.
What is your favorite fashion purchase/garment/outfit of all time?
A sapphire blue, duchess satin and silk chiffon Dior gown by Ches Pritchard Couture. I still have it - it’s over 16 years old - its magnificent, although it doesn't fit me anymore, sadly its now too big.
You would rather eat your own shirt than wear…
Dungarees.
